The Sun in Leo
The Sun in Leo
In Leo, our core is proud, generous, and playful. Unless afflicted, a person with the Sun in Leo has an innate desire and the talent to be a leader. The individual grows as they recognize and express these qualities and go about achieving them in an honest, committed, faithful, and deliberate manner. Their innate nature tends to make Leo’s magnetic and charismatic. Leo rules the heart and can be kind and help others if they open their hearts. If they close them, they can be despicable and self-centered. Pay attention to your tendency to be ego-centric. Practice generosity, mindfulness, and—if you can, humility.
The Sabian Symbol for the Sun in Leo 23: In a circus, the bareback rider displays her dangerous skill (Phase 143)[1]
KEYNOTE: The audacity and perseverance required to control and play with the powerful energies of the vital realm in human existence.
The horse has always been the symbol of the vital energies. In a wild state, the horse represents the magnificent, raw, impetuous energy of the libido in all its forms. When tamed, this energy can serve humanity. Some individuals have dominated it so well that they can perform spectacular feats. Here these achievements are seen within the context of a social function and expressing a flair for dramatics.
At this third stage, the ego is in control; he is a great showman, but he serves a purpose. The performance stirs the imagination of the young consciousness. It raises the mind above the commonplace. The Keyword is VIRTUOSITY.
The Moon in Aquarius
Witty and intelligent, Aquarians have a profoundly spiritual nature that searches for knowledge above all. Concerned with the needs of the community, often they sacrifice their own, and their sense of identity in the process. That loss can make them cynical and bitter. The Moon in this sign can intensify that loss of self and those with a Moon in Aquarius often find themselves being too detached. This detachment can be perceived as coldness and make it difficult for Aquarians to have lasting intimate relationships.
Known for their love of freedom and tendency to be rebellious, they dislike being backed against the wall. Give them an ultimatum about anything, and you will find yourself staring at the emptiness where an Aquarian once stood.
The Sabian Symbol for the Moon in Aquarius 23: A big bear sitting down and waving all its paws.
KEYNOTE: The self-discipline which results from an intelligent development of individual faculties under proper training.
What constitutes the proper training of children or animals is a complex and much-disputed problem. The symbol seems to state simply that powerful life energies can be trained adequately — the implication or extension of the idea being that no training is really successful unless it leads to the realization of the value and power of self-discipline. We are constantly faced with situations which, whether we are aware of it or not, are in fact training situations; God or the Soul is the trainer. Much depends on the attitudes we assume in these situations.
This is the third symbol in the sixty-fifth sequence. We see in it the outcome of what is suggested in the two preceding ones. Character and a warm “under-standing” of what is involved in the process of growth and overcoming of emotional heaviness can be taught. We can learn to discipline our natural impulses and to use them for a more-than-personal purpose. This is DISCIPLESHIP in the true sense of the term.
During this Full Moon, we find ourselves needing to balance the playful, self-centered, and warm qualities of the Sun in Leo against the serious, unselfish, and cold ones of the Moon in Aquarius.
The Full Moon Explained
This opposition pits the principled qualities the Sun in playful, creative Leo against the Moon in serious, committed, Aquarius. It is a powerful opposition because the spirited Sun is being helped by Venus, who is sitting in his arms, and Mars, whom he will be embracing shortly.
Venus is the principle of attraction, particularly the things that come easy, give pleasure, are beautiful, and give us a sense of security. Her energy is the opposite of Mars, who actively pushes to go for it, aggressively if necessary. Sitting in the lap of the Sun and ruled by them, they blend their tendencies with the Sun’s. We could use the energy of the moment to be as full of ourselves as we would want to be, but the Moon stops us. “No way! Think of others.
Think of the well-being of society as a whole.
This Moon in Aquarius would be weak and lay down for the Sun but the Moon. Saturn, in his glory in Capricorn, rules her, making it difficult for the Sun to get everything he wants. The Moon will put up a fight.
It is also impossible to rule out the role of Jupiter, who is sitting in Sagittarius, happy, happy, and sassy. At first glance, one would think he would be coming to the help of the Sun and strengthening him. However, the distance between them is thirty degrees, an aspect known as a semi-sextile. That aspect affords an opportunity. So, Jupiter offers his fellow traveler a hand. Thus Saturn is less pessimistic and stern than usual. Jupiter helps him to get down to the business of restructuring the structures of our lives that need to be changed.
What does all of this mean?
On the big scene, expect confrontations between those who wish to be hedonistic and have their way—at the level governments and people of power. They won’t be able to get everything they want; someone will rain on their parade. In your life, that can happen also. However, you can use this moment and your knowledge of the aspects to make an opportunity to release whatever stands in your way. And one of the biggest impediments in our lives is fear.
Leo’s worse fear is being ignored. Aquarians fear being put in a box and made to fit in into a box and molded to be like everyone else. This lunation is a great time to give those fears away.
A Generic Affirmation: I release my fear of having to be someone I’m not so I will be loved.
